Substitutes for Branca Menta liqueur
White crème de menthe
The closest match for sugar and mint. Pour about 25 ml for every 30 ml required. Add a dash of aromatic bitters to restore the missing edge, though the final mix turns out slightly weaker.
Fernet-Branca and peppermint syrup
Mix two parts amaro with one part syrup. Strength and sweetness match well, but the flavor lands a bit harsher.
Straight Fernet-Branca
A poor choice on its own. It is far drier and lacks the peppermint, resulting in an overly strong, bitter drink.
Storage
An open bottle keeps for years on an ordinary shelf, since menthol and the bitter base are both stable. Keep it out of sunlight, which slowly dulls the color.
