Chocolate cream liqueur is a cream liqueur, built on dairy cream and a spirit base, flavored with chocolate or cocoa.
Chocolate, cream and sugar arrive in one bottle, and most substitutes bring two of the three. A plain cream liqueur with chocolate syrup rebuilds it, adding the syrup half a barspoon at a time; what stays missing is the cocoa bitterness.
Crème de cacao
Chocolate liqueur with no dairy in it at all: in that liqueur’s name "crème" points to sugar, not to cream. It stays clear and will not thicken a drink the way the cream version does.
It contains cream — once opened, refrigerate and use by the label date.
