Vodka with lime zest

Make your own. If the cocktail is shaken, simply drop a strip of lime zest into plain vodka. For a batch, steep the zest of two limes without the white pith in 700 ml of vodka. Taste daily: two or three days is usually enough.

Citron vodka

Works in the same amount, but the flavor pulls toward lemon.

Lime liqueur

Much sweeter and slightly weaker, so mix it half and half with plain vodka. If the cocktail has syrup, try it without first.
