Southern-style whiskey liqueur is an American fruit-and-spice liqueur on an aged-spirit base, sweetened. Despite the whiskey character, it’s a liqueur.
Another bottle of the same style works one for one; Southern Comfort is 35% with about 100–113 g of sugar per liter. Or rebuild it with bourbon and a peach liqueur such as Bols Peach (17%). About 3 parts bourbon to 2 parts liqueur comes to about 31% and 100 g of sugar per liter. Add a dash of aromatic bitters per drink for the spice.
Bourbon / aged whiskey
Dry and strong, 40% or more, with no sugar. One for one, the drink comes out stronger and drier, so add a little syrup or a splash of peach liqueur.
The base has moved: bourbon first, then neutral spirit with only a trace of whiskey, and whiskey again since 2017 — old recipes were written for a different bottle.
