Swedish Punsch is a sweet liqueur built on Batavia arrack, blended with other spirits, sugar and spice.
Batavia arrack under sugar, tea and citrus, and the arrack is the funk nothing else supplies. Built from parts an aged rum takes about two-thirds of the volume to reach the usual strength, and what stays missing is that wild edge.
Punch (the mixed drink)
Swedish punsch is a bottled, sweetened liqueur of fixed composition, where punch is mixed to order just before serving. Ask for one and get the other and you have a cordial instead of a bowl — the recipe measures it like a liqueur, not like a drink.
Around 25% ABV against roughly 30% sugar — count it as sweet rather than strong.
