Butterscotch liqueur is a sweet liqueur made to imitate butterscotch, the confection of brown sugar and butter.

Substitutes for Butterscotch liqueur
Homemade blend
Mix equal parts butterscotch-flavored syrup and vodka. With Monin's syrup the strength and sweetness match De Kuyper Butterscotch.
Caramel liqueur
Stronger and slightly less buttery. Pour a little less, or the same amount for a stronger cocktail. Toffee cream liqueurs like Dooley's will make the outcome creamier.
Description
It is an American-style schnapps: neutral grain spirit built up with flavoring, sugar and usually glycerin into something smooth and syrupy. Nothing in it is distilled from butterscotch.
