Donn’s Mix is a tiki cordial of grapefruit juice and cinnamon syrup, usually two parts to one.
Substitutes for Donn’s Mix
Mix it yourself: it is two ingredients and a minute. Grapefruit juice with a pinch of ground cinnamon gets you into the same street and leaves the drink hazy. Nothing on a shelf substitutes for it.
Often confused with
Cinnamon syrup alone
Half of the mix and none of the acid. A recipe calling for Donn’s Mix and given syrup comes out sweet and flabby.
Other tiki cordials
Grapefruit and cinnamon here, but the family includes falernum, passion fruit syrup and mixed spice blends that are not interchangeable. Tiki recipes name them exactly because they are not.
Storage
Refrigerated and used within a couple of days, because half of it is fresh juice and the fresh juice sets the clock. Make it in the quantity you will use that shift.
