Watermelon vodka is a flavored vodka — a neutral base with watermelon added, sometimes with a little sugar.
The melon note is almost always flavoring, often with sugar behind it the label does not mention. Fresh juice instead is a different trade: it gives you the fruit but dilutes the drink.
Watermelon schnapps / watermelon liqueur
The liqueur is bottled at 15–25% against vodka’s 40%, and it is markedly sweeter. The drink comes out both weaker and cloying: pour about half as much and drop the sugar from the build.
Watermelon is a fragile flavor to begin with — the fruit itself carries the C9 aldehydes that make it smell like watermelon, and they are among the first things to go. An open bottle holds up for a few months and then reads mostly of sweetness.
