Limoncello is an Italian lemon liqueur of lemon zest steeped in spirit and sweetened with sugar syrup.
Lemon peel oil and sugar on a neutral base, and both halves rebuild easily: peel steeped in vodka plus syrup lands close, about three parts spirit to one of syrup for the strength. A liqueur made from another citrus covers the sweetness and brings the wrong peel.
Orange liqueur (triple sec / curaçao)
Both are citrus-peel liqueurs, which is why they sit close. Limoncello is steeped on lemon peel and usually weaker; triple sec and curaçao are made on orange. Swapping one for the other changes both the fruit and the strength of the drink.
