Substitutes for Limoncello liqueur
Difficult to replace as a drink's sweet aromatic centrepiece; as a small accent, another genuine lemon-zest product delivers the essential peel-oil aroma, with simple syrup rebuilding the sweetness and a dash of fresh lemon juice adding tartness if wanted. An orange-based liqueur or plain lemon juice will not reproduce it.

Limoncello is a sweet lemon-peel liqueur, generally lower proof and much sweeter than triple sec or curaçao, which are built around bitter or sweet orange peel and are drier. Both are citrus-peel-macerated liqueurs, which is why they are grouped together.
