Limoncello is an Italian lemon liqueur of lemon zest steeped in spirit and sweetened with sugar syrup.
A sweet lemon pour. It modifies at 15 ml and becomes the drink itself at 30. It’s drunk chilled as a digestif, and in a cocktail it gives a sweet lemon aroma. It’s good in spritzes and sparkling drinks with Prosecco and citrus. Note: it’s zest aroma, not acidity — add acidity with juice.
Another limoncello works one for one, but taste first. Brands range from about 18% to 31% ABV and 190 to 320 g of sugar per liter. To rebuild it, mix three parts 40% lemon vodka with one part 2:1 syrup. That lands near 30% and 220 g of sugar per liter. Triple sec works in a pinch, though the drink turns orange-led.
Orange liqueur (triple sec / curaçao)
Orange peel instead of lemon; many triple secs, Cointreau among them, are stronger than limoncello.
