Ginger beer is a sweet, carbonated ginger drink, usually a non-alcoholic mixer, spicier and fuller than ginger ale.
Another ginger beer swaps in one for one. Ginger ale works in the same amount but is much milder. To bring back the heat, muddle a thin slice of fresh ginger in the glass. A barspoon of ginger syrup works too, though it also adds sugar. Soda water with ginger syrup to taste is a rougher stand-in.
A ginger-flavored soda, far gentler in both ginger and bite. Ginger beer was traditionally fermented, and some, such as Bundaberg, still are.
Traditional ginger beer is fermented and keeps a little alcohol, while the modern kind is simply carbonated under pressure. The label shows it as "under 0.5%".
Refrigerate after opening and use promptly, as carbonation is lost once the seal is broken.
