Substitutes for Vanilla vodka
Vodka brings the strength and the vanilla brings a sweetness that is often literal — EU rules let a flavored vodka be sugared, and the label rarely says so. Plain vodka with a vanilla syrup gives the same two things with the sugar under your control.
Often confused with
The liqueur is half the strength and far sweeter, with a syrupy body. At the same measure the drink comes out both weaker and markedly sweeter: pour about half as much and drop the syrup from the build.
Storage
Of the flavored vodkas this is the durable one. Vanillin is a stable compound, so an opened bottle keeps its character far longer than a citrus or berry vodka will. Ordinary shelf storage, closed, out of the sun.
