Vanilla dominates — sweet, rounded and slightly creamy on the nose — over an otherwise clean, neutral spirit base with only a light sweetness.
How it's used
Reached for when a drink wants vanilla aroma built into its alcoholic backbone rather than added as a separate sweet accent, it works as a full base measure, stirred or shaken. Because purchased bottlings are commonly sweetened, the same pour can add perceptible sweetness as well as aroma, unlike a plain vodka that contributes strength alone.
Substitutes for Vanilla vodka
Another light-sweetened flavoured vodka of the same strength slots into the base role with a different aromatic layer; plain neutral vodka preserves the strength and format identically but loses all vanilla, so the aroma must be reintroduced from a vanilla source such as extract or syrup whenever the recipe leans on it.
Often confused with
Vanilla vodka is a flavoured vodka held to the vodka strength floor and only lightly sweetened, whereas a vanilla liqueur is a lower-strength, heavily sweetened liqueur; both carry vanilla aroma but differ sharply in sugar, body and alcoholic strength.
