The Spicy Fifty – IBA is vanilla vodka shaken with elderflower cordial, lime juice, honey syrup and two slices of red chili, served up in a cocktail glass.

Pre-chill a glass
Shake: Vanilla vodka 50 mlElderflower cordial 15 mlLime juice 15 mlHoney syrup 10 mlRed chili pepper 2 slices
Fine strain into the chilled cocktail glass
Garnish with a red chili pepper

Tips

Shake the 2 chili slices hard with everything else to release their oils, then fine-strain straight away so the heat warms the drink instead of taking over.
Taste before serving; the 10 ml of honey syrup has to soften both the sharp lime and the chili heat.

History

The Spicy Fifty was created by Italian-born bartender Salvatore Calabrese as his signature drink at his bar in the Fifty St. James private members' club in London, which he opened in 2004. The cocktail takes its name from that venue, which later closed. It was added to the IBA's official cocktail list in 2020, under the "New Era" category.
