The Gun Metal Blue is a shaken mezcal sour built with blue curaçao, lime, peach liqueur, and cinnamon syrup, served up in a coupe. Smoky and citrus-bright with a silky texture, this pours cool and tart before warm spice and orange oil linger on a smooth, lightly sweet finish.
The Gun Metal Blue was created in February 2015 by Mike Shain and Nicholas Bennett at Porchlight, a bar in New York City. It is a mezcal-based riff on the Margarita, swapping in blue curaçao, peach liqueur, and cinnamon syrup alongside lime juice for a smoky, spiced variation on the classic template. The drink was later featured in Robert Simonson's book Mezcal + Tequila Cocktails, which helped spread the recipe beyond its originating bar.
Mezcal, blue curaçao, fresh lime juice, crème de pêche de vigne liqueur, and cinnamon syrup, shaken and strained into a coupe with an expressed orange twist floated on top.
