Dark rum is a rum defined by color, deep brown to near-black, which comes from long aging in charred barrels, added caramel, or often both.
ABV40–45%That is standard dark rum, while navy-strength bottlings (around 54.5%) and overproof Demerara run much higher.

Blackstrap rum
Add it a barspoon at a time to a lighter rum to restore the weight. Swapped one for one, it takes over the drink.

Dark overproof rum
Much stronger: use half to two-thirds of the measure, depending on its strength.
