How it's used
A small-to-moderate pour adds sweet, creamy weight and turns a drink opaque. It's the star of a Mudslide and a B-52, and it turns an espresso martini into dessert. It loves coffee, chocolate and vanilla — but keep it well away from citrus and anything acidic, which curdles the cream.
Substitutes for Irish cream liqueur
Another cream liqueur is the obvious swap. Without one, you can approximate it — cream for the body, sugar for the sweetness, an aged whiskey for the kick — but the whiskey-cream-cocoa aroma is hard to fake, and no clear liqueur can give the opaque, creamy body at all.

Irish cream is built on Irish whiskey. When the base is wine instead, the product is usually sold as 'Country Cream' and counts legally as a wine-based drink, not a spirit liqueur.
