Strawberry and Balsamic Fruitini

Muddle; Shake ∙ 4 min ∙ 25% ABV ∙

The Strawberry and Balsamic Fruitini muddles fresh strawberries and strawberry syrup with a splash of white balsamic vinegar, shaken and served up. Ripe strawberry sweetness leads, then the balsamic edges in with a mellow, tangy depth that keeps the finish from turning cloying.

Ingredients

Servings
  • Fresh strawberriesFresh strawberries5 pcs
  • VodkaVodka75 ml
  • White balsamic vinegarWhite balsamic vinegar5 ml
  • Strawberry syrupStrawberry syrup15 ml

Garnish

  • StrawberryStrawberry

Instructions for 1 serving

  1. Pre-chill a glass
  2. In the base of the shaker, muddle: Fresh strawberries 5 pcs
  3. Add the remaining ingredients: Vodka 75 ml · White balsamic vinegar 5 ml · Strawberry syrup 15 ml
  4. Shake with ice
  5. Fine strain into the chilled glass
  6. Garnish with a strawberry

Tips

  • Muddle the strawberries gently in the shaker base — just enough to release juice, not so hard that seeds turn it bitter.
  • Pre-chill the martini glass so the fine-strained drink doesn't lose its chill the moment it's poured.
  • Shake hard and fine-strain to keep strawberry seeds and pulp out of the finished pour.

History

The Strawberry and Balsamic Fruitini traces to a cocktail created around 2001 at Che, a bar on St James's Street in London, where it was originally served as the Strawberry & Balsamic Martini. The drink caught on in London bars during 2002, at that time made with plain sugar syrup rather than strawberry syrup. It was later folded into the Fruitini family of martini-style drinks, with strawberry syrup replacing the sugar syrup in the updated version.

Fruitini is the umbrella name for a group of fruit-forward vodka martinis built on muddled or pureed fruit shaken with vodka and a matching syrup, served up in a martini glass. This strawberry and balsamic version keeps that basic Fruitini structure but adds white balsamic vinegar alongside the muddled strawberries, giving the drink a sharper, tangier edge than a plain fruit Fruitini.

FAQ

Does strawberry and balsamic vinegar go together?

Yes, strawberry and balsamic vinegar are a classic pairing — the vinegar's mellow tang cuts the fruit's sweetness and deepens its flavor rather than souring it. This cocktail applies that pairing by muddling fresh strawberries with a splash of white balsamic vinegar.

Is there a cocktail with balsamic vinegar?

Yes, the Strawberry and Balsamic Fruitini is one such cocktail, using a small amount of white balsamic vinegar alongside muddled strawberries. The vinegar adds a tangy depth that balances the fruit's sweetness.

What fruit goes best with balsamic vinegar?

Strawberries are one of the best-known pairings for balsamic vinegar, since its acidity brings out the fruit's natural sweetness. This cocktail builds on that pairing by muddling fresh strawberries with a splash of white balsamic vinegar.
