Cherry Fruitini

Shake ∙ 3 min ∙ 16.7% ABV ∙

The Cherry Fruitini is a shaken vodka martini made with cherry juice and a touch of sugar syrup, served up in a martini glass. Tart cherry juice leads over clean vodka, with just enough syrup to round the edge into a smooth, fruity sip that finishes crisp and short.

Ingredients

Servings
  • VodkaVodka50 ml
  • Cherry juiceCherry juice45 ml
  • Sugar syrupSugar syrup5 ml

Garnish

  • Lemon twistLemon twist
  • Maraschino cherryMaraschino cherry

Instructions for 1 serving

  1. Pre-chill a glass
  2. Shake all ingredients with ice: Vodka 50 ml · Cherry juice 45 ml · Sugar syrup 5 ml
  3. Fine strain into the chilled glass
  4. Express a lemon twist over the cocktail and discard
  5. Garnish with a maraschino cherry on a skewer

Tips

  • Shake vodka, cherry juice, and sugar syrup hard for 12-15 seconds with full-size cubes to reach proper dilution and a cold, silky texture.
  • Fine-strain into a chilled martini glass to remove ice shards and any pulp from the cherry juice, giving a clear, smooth pour.
  • Express a lemon twist over the surface and discard the peel, then add the maraschino cherry last so it doesn't bleed color into the drink.
  • Because the base is only 5 ml sugar syrup, taste before serving and adjust slightly if the cherry juice used is tart rather than sweet.

History

Cherry Fruitini was created in May 2020 by a bartender in Rye, England, as one of the fresh-fruit "Fruitini" style of vodka martinis, swapping in cherry juice as the defining fruit and pairing it with a lemon twist and a maraschino cherry garnish.

The Fruitini itself is not a single invented drink but a style: vodka-based cocktails built on fresh fruit juice and a touch of sugar syrup, served martini-style. This style of fruity "Neo-Martinis" emerged in London during the 1990s, becoming particularly associated with the Met Bar, a fashionable members' club of that era. The Cherry Fruitini applies that same fresh-fruit-and-vodka template with cherry as the chosen fruit.
