Amaretto is a sweet almond- or kernel-flavoured liqueur, whereas amaro is a bitter Italian liqueur built from herbs, roots, flowers, bark and citrus peels. The similar names both derive from the Italian amaro ('bitter'), but the products are unrelated in flavour and role.
