- Pre-chill a glass
- Shake all ingredients with ice: Vodka 45 mlCrème de Menthe white 15 ml
- Fine strain into the chilled glass
- Garnish with a mint leaf floated or pegged to rim
Tips
- Keep the crème de menthe to 15 ml; any more and the drink turns sweet and the vodka disappears behind the mint.
History
The Vodka Stinger, also called the White Spider, swaps vodka for brandy in the classic Stinger and became fashionable as clear spirits rose in popularity through the 1950s and 1960s. Elaine Stritch, playing Joanne in Stephen Sondheim's 1970 musical Company, calls for a vodka stinger in the number "The Ladies Who Lunch."
The parent Stinger, brandy with white crème de menthe, traces to the United States around 1890 and became a fixture of high-society drinking in New York.
