- Pre-chill a glass
- Stir all ingredients with ice: Cherry bourbon 35 mlCalvados 35 mlChocolate syrup 20 mlAngostura aromatic bitters 1 dash
- Strain into the ice-filled glass (preferably over a large cube or chunk of block ice)
- Garnish with a chocolate piece
Tips
- Stir everything with ice for about 20–30 seconds so the chocolate syrup fully mixes in, then strain over ice, ideally one large cube.
- Chocolate syrup is thick, so warm it slightly or pour it in first; that way it mixes evenly into the spirits instead of sinking to the bottom.
History
The Chocolate Old Fashioned is a modern flavored variation of the Old Fashioned. It swaps chocolate syrup in for the plain sugar of the original and splits the base between cherry bourbon and Calvados. It has no separately documented creation story.
