Cocktails with Red bitter
Red bitter is a crimson, bittersweet Italian aperitivo liqueur. Botanicals such as bitter orange peel and gentian root are macerated in neutral alcohol, then sweetened.

Substitutes for Red bitter
Aperol
Works in the same amount. It is sweeter and about half as strong, so the drink turns softer and less bitter. A dash of aromatic bitters brings back some bitterness.
A bitter-orange aperitif gives a softer bitterness and loses the red color.
Syrups and fruit liqueurs
Will not work: they add sweetness, not bitterness.
