Pre-chill a glass
Stir all ingredients well with ice: Bourbon 45 mlRed bitter 30 mlRosso vermouth 30 ml
Strain into the chilled cocktail glass

Tips

Stir with plenty of large ice cubes for 25-30 seconds, until the mixing glass feels frost-cold; stop short and the drink tastes harsh and boozy.

History

The Boulevardier – IBA is the International Bartenders Association's specification of the Boulevardier, an official IBA cocktail since 2020. It raises the bourbon to 45 ml against 30 ml each of red bitter and sweet vermouth, a more whiskey-forward balance than the equal-parts original of bourbon, Campari and sweet vermouth.
