The Little Tomato stirs muddled fresh cherry tomato with equal parts vodka and Manzanilla sherry, served up in a coupe. Silky and savory-edged, with a briny snap that cuts a clean spirit backbone and a whisper of green, herbal warmth on the finish.
The Little Tomato is a modern cocktail created in January 2024 by a bartender, pairing vodka and manzanilla sherry with a muddled fresh cherry tomato. Its name was inspired by Hang On Little Tomato, the 2004 album by the Portland, Oregon band Pink Martini.
A Little Tomato is made with fresh cherry tomato muddled with vodka, Manzanilla sherry, and sugar syrup, plus a few dashes of coriander bitters and saline solution. It is stirred with ice, fine-strained into a coupe, and garnished with a cherry tomato on a skewer.
Muddle a cherry tomato in the base of a stirring glass, then add vodka, Manzanilla sherry, sugar syrup, coriander bitters, and saline solution. Stir with ice, fine-strain into a chilled coupe, and garnish with a cherry tomato on a skewer.
The best-known tomato-and-alcohol drink is the Bloody Mary, built on vodka and tomato juice. The Little Tomato is a different drink — equal parts vodka and Manzanilla sherry with a whole fresh cherry tomato muddled in, rather than tomato juice.
