Cocktails with Blended Scotch whisky
Blended Scotch is Scotch made and matured in Scotland — at least three years — from light grain whisky for the base and single malts for character. It’s the everyday style behind most Scotch sold.
ABV40%Is the legal minimum for Scotch, and most blends are bottled right there. In a highball that’s plenty — the drink is meant to be long. But in a Rob Roy or Rusty Nail, with no citrus or soda, 40% can vanish under the vermouth and liqueur; look for a 43% bottling, as export versions often are.
Substitutes for Blended Scotch whisky
It is here to be a clean, light base, so almost any light whisky does the same job without argument. Going up in weight is the risk, not going sideways: a heavier or peatier bottle takes over a long drink that was built to let the mixer speak.

- The number is the age of the youngest whisky in the blend; "NAS" means no age is stated, which is not a verdict on quality.
Often confused with
Single malt Scotch
One distillery, all malted barley, and usually drunk neat. In a long drink it steps forward where a blend stays back: the cocktail stops being easy and wants a shorter measure.
Blended malt Scotch
Several malts married together with no grain whisky at all: heavier and more audible in the glass. A long drink built for a light blend stops being light with it.
