Falernum is a low-proof Caribbean liqueur made from lime, sugar and rum, spiced with clove, ginger, nutmeg and almond.
It is three things at once — lime, spice and almond — and nothing else on the shelf carries all three. As a small accent you can rebuild it from parts; where it is the main flavor, the parts do not add up to it.
Orgeat syrup
Orgeat has no lime, no spice and no rum — only almond and sugar. In a Corn 'n' Oil or a tiki drink the whole spiced, tart half disappears: put it back with lime and a pinch of clove and ginger.
Allspice dram / pimento dram
Allspice on a rum base, sweet and dosed in milliliters. It covers the clove-and-spice side and brings none of the lime or almond, so a Falernum recipe comes out narrower with it.
