Tips

This is a strong, short mix: 60 ml of cachaça to 15 ml of lime. Shake hard with cubed ice for 12-15 seconds, then double-strain into the chilled coupe.
Squeeze the lime just before shaking; at 15 ml it has to be fresh to stand up to the cachaça.

History

The Cachaça Daiquiri is a variation of the Daiquiri, the Cuban rum, lime, and sugar sour widely credited to American mining engineer Jennings Cox around 1898. It replaces the rum with cachaça, the Brazilian sugarcane spirit, giving the classic sour a grassier, more vegetal character.
