How it's used
Serving as a low-proof aromatic modifier, it is stirred in small measures to lend a base spirit botanical dryness and structure without adding noticeable sweetness.
Substitutes for Dry vermouth
Another dry, herbal aromatised wine of comparable weight and low sugar.
Often confused with
Both are Artemisia-flavoured aromatised wines, but dry vermouth carries less than 50 g/L sugar and is typically pale and near-neutral, whereas sweet vermouth carries 130 g/L or more sugar and is usually coloured, often with caramel. They are not interchangeable where sweetness and colour matter.
